Economies that rely heavily on energy imports are likely to experience slower growth, while countries benefiting from digital transformation—including several Asian economies and Thailand—are expected to expand more strongly.\u003C\u002Fspan>\u003C\u002Fp>\u003Cp>\u003Cspan>Meanwhile, inflationary pressures arising from the situation in the Middle East have yet to ease. This has led financial markets to anticipate higher US interest rates, contributing to the depreciation of Asian currencies. The movement also reflects a new form of monetary policy coordination in which partner central banks manage the Japanese yen through euro-denominated operations.\u003C\u002Fspan>\u003C\u002Fp>\u003Cp class=\"isSelectedEnd\">\u003Cspan>\u003Cstrong>Thailand faces the challenge of adapting to global economic changes while capturing more value-added opportunities from the worldwide digital transformation.\u003C\u002Fstrong>\u003C\u002Fspan>\u003C\u002Fp>\u003Cp class=\"isSelectedEnd\">\u003Cspan>Although exports and investment are expected to remain strong, Thailand’s export value expanded by 17.6% year on year during the first half of 2026, driven primarily by technology products. Technology-related goods accounted for 26.5% of total exports and recorded growth of 45.9% year on year, supported by the global artificial intelligence trend.\u003C\u002Fspan>\u003C\u002Fp>\u003Cp class=\"isSelectedEnd\">\u003Cspan>However, despite strong growth in manufacturing industries on the upper arm of the K-shaped economy, the value generated has not yet been fully transferred to the domestic economy.\u003C\u002Fspan>\u003C\u002Fp>\u003Cp class=\"isSelectedEnd\">\u003Cspan>Thailand must therefore accelerate the development of local content to strengthen its position in regional value chains, or RVCs. The country should also promote domestic production to reduce its dependence on imported goods, develop stronger domestic supply chains and prepare a workforce capable of supporting high-quality jobs in the future.\u003C\u002Fspan>\u003C\u002Fp>\u003Cp>\u003Cspan>These actions will enable Thailand to benefit more fully from the expected inflow of foreign investment. At the same time, industries located on the lower arm of the K-shaped economy must be clearly identified so that government assistance and support measures can be delivered accurately and effectively.\u003C\u002Fspan>\u003C\u002Fp>\u003Cp class=\"isSelectedEnd\">\u003Cspan>\u003Cstrong>The Joint Standing Committee on Commerce, Industry and Banking, or JSCCIB, supports stronger integration of updated, comprehensive and verifiable data. Reliable information is essential for designing measures that are appropriate, targeted, measurable and capable of improving the effectiveness of economic development.\u003C\u002Fstrong>\u003C\u002Fspan>\u003C\u002Fp>\u003Cp class=\"isSelectedEnd\">\u003Cspan>One example is the Ror Ngor 8 factory data, which contains production information submitted by industrial operators. This database can be further developed to strengthen Thai businesses in several areas, particularly by supporting products manufactured in Thailand under the Made in Thailand, or MiT, initiative.\u003C\u002Fspan>\u003C\u002Fp>\u003Cp>\u003Cspan>Information on production structures, local content, labour and supply chains can also be used to support businesses and industries on the lower arm of the K-shaped economy. Better data would help align demand and supply, create business opportunities and income, and ensure that fiscal resources are used efficiently and comprehensively.\u003C\u002Fspan>\u003C\u002Fp>\u003Cp class=\"isSelectedEnd\">\u003Cspan>\u003Cstrong>JSCCIB also supports the integration of data from public- and private-sector organisations under a “Connect the Dots” approach. Thailand needs an updated, reliable and comprehensive database as part of its transition toward an open-government model.\u003C\u002Fstrong>\u003C\u002Fspan>\u003C\u002Fp>\u003Cp class=\"isSelectedEnd\">\u003Cspan>This includes improving the classification of assistance for vulnerable groups under the latest State Welfare Card programme. Assistance should be designed according to the circumstances and actual needs of each individual, ensuring greater fairness while closing legal loopholes and strengthening inspections relating to nominee arrangements.\u003C\u002Fspan>\u003C\u002Fp>\u003Cp class=\"isSelectedEnd\">\u003Cspan>These initiatives could serve as a starting point for connecting essential government data through functioning online systems. Such integration is a critical foundation for data-driven national development and is consistent with the Reinvent Thailand framework.\u003C\u002Fspan>\u003C\u002Fp>\u003Cp class=\"isSelectedEnd\">\u003Cspan>The same approach is relevant to efforts to combat cybercrime, illicit capital, the informal economy and the disappearance of Thai baht from the formal financial system, as highlighted by the Bank of Thailand.\u003C\u002Fspan>\u003C\u002Fp>\u003Cp>\u003Cspan>JSCCIB also supports developing the Eastern Economic Corridor, or EEC, as a pilot area for business facilitation through a One-Stop Service model under the Licensing Facilitation Act.
